Ithaca College Trumpet Auditions

Interested in audition for the Ithaca College Trumpet Studio led by Professor Chris Coletti and Dr. Aaron Witek?  

The following guidelines should help you get started.  If you have specific questions about what you want to play, contact Professor Chris Coletti and Dr. Aaron Witek.

Undergraduate Audition Requirements:

  1. Two contrasting movements, pieces, or études
  2. All major scales from memory
  3. Sight-reading

* Orchestral excerpts are not required of performance applicants, but the inclusion of several standard excerpts as a part of your audition is welcomed.
All those auditioning are expected to perform without accompaniment.

Undergraduate Audition Requirements:

  • Jazz Studies (B.M.) — All students must complete both a jazz and classical audition.

Classical Audition

  1. Two contrasting movements, pieces, or études
  2. All major scales from memory
  3. Sight-reading

Jazz Audition

  1. Be prepared to perform a blues selection, jazz standard, and ballad. Please choose selections from the provided list (below). For each selection, perform the head, solo once over the form, return to the head, and end accordingly. Instrumental jazz studies applicants must also sing the melody of one of their prepared pieces.

Graduate Audition Requirements:

  • Performance (M.M.)Candidates must exhibit the equivalent preparation to that required for the Bachelor of Music in Performance at Ithaca College and give evidence of being equipped to perform successful recitals during the period of study for the degree program.
  1. Several contrasting styles from the standard trumpet repertoire that demonstrate all facets of your playing and show proficiency on B-flat, C, and example of small horn playing – either E-flat or piccolo or both
  2. One étude from either Brandt, Charlier, or Bitsch
  3. At least four standard orchestral excerpts
